Here is my SAL update on the Cut Thru Garden Shed cross stitch kit. Designer credits are here. If you need a reminder of how it’ll all turn out in the end, you’ll find a photo in this post.
February already? How did that happen? It’s been rather chilly up north these past few days but still lovely and sunny. No snow so far, hurray!
On with the SAL update…
This is where I was up to last time.
I’ve now done the next section on the far left. Here it is so far without the back stitch done. Lots of splodgy stitching.
This is how it looks after the back stitched detail has been added. Much better!
I’m not keen on how the cat seems to have only half a face but I checked the chart and the original kit photo and that’s how it’s supposed to be. I’m really liking all the little critters that keep popping up in this design. I’ll be continuing along to the right for the next update.

About the SAL
This SAL (Stitch Along) is slightly different to other SALs in that we don’t all stitch the same design at the same rate. We choose ONE unfinished project, or ONE new one, and show progress of its completion over a series of three weekly updates. There are no deadlines and no set amount to stitch. The result is that the space in our drawers full of WIPs (works in progress) is gradually being freed up to store lots of new crafty goodness. It’s surprising how much motivation I’ve gained from being in this SAL. If you’d like to finish a project you’ve left unfinished for a while, or start a new one with us, you can join us by leaving a request in the comments below or sending me an email. The address is on the right of this page. I’ll send you a few simple rules to agree.

/ February 3, 2019Love how your shed is growing, it is looking great. 🤗
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ February 3, 2019Thank you. I work on other projects at the same time so I just stitch one section on this and then put it away for the remainder of the 3 weeks.

/ February 3, 2019That backstitching really is vital to bring the image into focus. And loads done, too!
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ February 3, 2019Yes, the next few sections are mostly full of stitches too. I’ll keep my head down because there are other projects in the queue.

/ February 3, 2019I don’t think your cat has half a face he is looking inquisitively down at the snail so you only see on side of it and as his head is cocked to the side (as cats do when they are studying something) you can see his other ear lol. Well that’s my opinion for what its worth Avis .
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ February 3, 2019Your opinion is good enough for me 🙂 I think you’re right but I keep looking at it. I won’t be doing anything about it as my artistic skills are zero.
Debbierose
/ February 3, 2019I like the back stitch as you go method, helps define the project so nicely. Wonderful job
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ February 3, 2019It’s helping me along as it’s nice to see the detail appear.

/ February 3, 2019I think the cat looks remarkably cat-like . . . and all I can say is those birds are Lucky his attention has been Grabbed by the snail ^^
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ February 3, 2019Hehe, I agree. Maybe he’s never seen a snail as big as that one before.

/ February 3, 2019The more you look, the more you see with this piece. Love all the little details like the snail and tiny bee.
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ February 3, 2019I don’t know how the designer manages to cram so much in. I’ve also stitched the narrow boat and about one third of that one shows a cross section of the water under the boat. It’s amazing what she included in the canal 🙂
Renee
/ February 3, 2019Wonderful progress! I love seeing all of the little critters, too. 🙂
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ February 3, 2019Thanks, it’s an easy one to stitch. Lots going on to hold my interest.

Connie Butner
/ February 3, 2019I love this piece! It is such a happy, joyful stitchery. It is always amazing to me how much the backstitching defines a piece and makes everything come clear. Kind of like putting my glasses on in the morning!
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ February 3, 2019That’s exactly how it is! Having said that, without my specs I probably wouldn’t see much more than the fabric LOL.

Sewing Beside the Sea
/ February 3, 2019Thank you Sharon. Do you enjoy stitching or crafting at all?
Lindashee
/ February 3, 2019This project is coming along really well ! The backstitch is key 😀
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ February 3, 2019I agree. Completely finishing a section motivates me to start another square as well.
lbick
/ February 3, 2019Looks great. Love the way the back stitching makes it pop.
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ February 3, 2019Thanks. The next few sections will be quite stitch intensive but I’ll try to keep up the pace.

/ February 3, 2019The kitty is so cute though!! Love seeing how the details come to life with the back stitch.
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ February 3, 2019I agree, even though I’m not a fan of cats….or is it that they don’t like me? LOL.
Christina
/ February 3, 2019You just haven’t met the right one 😉
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ February 3, 2019You could be right but I give them a wide berth so probably never will find one who likes me. They know I’m wary hehe.

/ February 3, 2019It’s always amazing what a difference the back stitching makes. 🙂
Sewing Beside the Sea

/ February 4, 2019This is great and as always the backsitching is amazing. What count fabric are you using?
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ February 5, 2019Thank you. It’s 16 hpi aida.
JJ Crafts
/ February 7, 2019Oh wow. I assumed it was much higher because of how detailed and precise your backstitching is!
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ February 7, 2019I just follow the very clear chart. There’s no fractional stitches to worry about either.
teamwilsun
