Highlands Landscape – Stage 8

I’m Happy Dancing today!

This is where I was up to last time. It was still rolled around the frame at the top so you can’t see the sky yet.

Stage 21

Here it is with all the back stitching done. It’s finished :-).

Finished

My sister bought me this kit for my birthday and I think she made a great choice. I’ve really enjoyed stitching it and its brought back many memories of wonderful holidays spent in the Scottish Highlands.

The back stitching on the thistles in the foreground was a nightmare to do so I ended up doing my own thing. It’s worked on 14 count aida but the back stitching on the chart was anywhere but in the holes. I’m very happy with how it turned out. I think if I’d tried to follow the chart for the thistle details I would’ve still been stitching now. I did intend to have it all framed in time for the Happy Dance but the shop is closed temporarily. I’ll get it done as soon as I can and let you see it then.

Some readers might remember Helen who is rejoining the group after a break. I’m looking forward to seeing which project she’s chosen to stitch along with us. Welcome back Helen!

About the SAL

Please note this SAL is not accepting any more new members until further notice but this is what it’s all about anyway. This SAL (Stitch Along) is slightly different to other SALs in that we don’t all stitch the same design at the same rate. We choose ONE unfinished project, or ONE new one, and show progress of its completion over a series of three weekly updates. There are no deadlines and no set amount to stitch. The result is that the space in our drawers full of WIPs (works in progress) is gradually being freed up to store lots of new crafty goodness. It’s surprising how much motivation I’ve gained from being in this SAL.

Highlands Landscape – Stage 7

It’s time to show an update on the Highlands Landscape cross stitch. Designer credits are here. This is where I was up to last time.

Stage 18

You’ll be pleased to know the cross stitching is all finished now.

Stage 21

There’s just the back stitching details to add and then I’ll take it off the frame and let you see the whole thing. I expect to be Happy Dance next time :-).

We’ve got a new member to welcome into the group today. Her name is Sherrie and you’ll be able to check out her blog by clicking her link below. I’m looking forward to seeing which project she’s chosen to complete for the SAL.

Highlands Landscape – Stage 6

It’s almost the end of March already! Our clocks went forward by an hour this weekend which means we’ll have lighter evenings and more time in the daylight to enjoy being out in the garden. I can’t remember the last time we had so many consecutive sunny days. Spring is definitely here.

Here’s another update on the Highlands Landscape. This is where I was up to last time.

Stage 15

I continued to stitch in my usual fashion along the bottom but needed to roll the fabric further up. That means the top won’t be visible again until it’s off the frame.

Stage 16

One section at a time. More thistles and grass.

Stage 17 This is where I’m up to now.

Stage 18There’s still one more row to stitch in the foreground but it’s only 90 x 22 stitches instead of 90 x 30. That’s still a lot of stitching so I’m going to make the last of the crosses my target for the next update and then the final stage will be the back stitched detail, two stages from now. It should be finished some time in May.

Highlands Landscape – Stage 5

It’s time to show you another update on the Highlands Landscape. Here’s where I was up to before.

Stage 12

Last time, several readers commented that it looks finished. I have to agree that the design could’ve been framed at this stage and, if I hadn’t been enjoying stitching this one so much, I could’ve just done the backstitch and called it done. However, there’s more…

Stage 13   and more…

Stage 14

and this is where I’m up to now.

Stage 15

That’s 5/7 of the cross stitching finished. Then there’ll be some back stitching to do.

Please take a look at the latest SAL project updates from the rest of the group by clicking the links below. Welcome aboard our two new members Laura and Cathie! I’m looking forward to seeing which project they’ve chosen for the SAL. Linda is also rejoining us this time. Welcome back Linda! Highlands Landscape – Stage 4

Short and sweet this time…

It’s time to show you another update on the Highlands Landscape. Here’s where I was up to last time.

Stage 9

I continued stitching along the bottom from the left hand side as usual. Plenty of lovely purples in this bit.

Stage 10

Ooh! More purples and sheep.

Stage 11

This is where I’m up to now.

Stage 12

The sheep will have some back stitched detail which I’ll do at the end with all the rest.

Highlands Landscape – Stage 3

Well that must’ve been the fastest three weeks ever! It’s time to show you an update on the Highlands Landscape already. Here’s where I was up to last time.

Stage 6

I didn’t have to do any more diagonal stitches this time and I haven’t looked ahead on the chart to see if there’ll be any more but I suspect it’ll be all full crosses from now on.

The first bit I tackled was the section on the left hand side. I knew the tree would try my patience with all those greens but I’m happy with how it turned out and I didn’t need to unpick any errors so that’s good.

Stage 7

I must admit, in all the times I’ve been to Scotland, I’ve never seen blue water inland but that’s what the chart said to stitch. The cottages are beginning to make an appearance.

Stage 8

They’ll have a small amount of back stitched detail but they’re already obviously cottages.

Stage 9

I didn’t notice while I was stitching but there’s a reflection of them in the water. Would there be a reflection from this viewpoint? I’m no artist so I’ve no idea if it looks OK.

If I can get another 3 small squares done for next time I’ll have more than half of the design stitched. I’m spending loads of time out in the garden at the moment and, if it wasn’t for the SAL, I’d be stitching far less than this. I’ll start at the bottom left hand side again and see how far I get. There should be more heather and sheep coming up.

Highlands Landscape – Stage 2

Happy New Year everyone!

Yes, it’s 2020 already. I won’t be making any New Year’s resolutions because I’ll fall at the first hurdle. I think I’ll just plod along and see what the new year brings. Hopefully there’ll be plenty of crafting time and then I’ll be very happy.

It’s time to show you an update on the Highlands Landscape. Here’s where I was up to last time.

Stage3_thumb.jpg

It mostly consisted of diagonal stitches with a few full crosses thrown in for some texture on the clouds. I continued stitching one square at a time.

Stage 4 There were still lots of diagonals to stitch. That tree at the bottom left was a nightmare!

Stage 5It’s nice to see a bit more colour. There’ll be a tiny bit of backstitching to do on the top half but I’ve decided to do it all last. I may regret that decision.

Stage 6I’m going to start at the bottom left hand side again and see if I can complete another 3 small squares for next time. Maybe the cottages will make a full appearance.

We’ve got a new member joining the SAL from today. Her name is AJ and I can’t wait to see which project she’s chosen to stitch. Welcome to the group AJ.
