Next To Go Stage 3

Hello everyone,

Another three weeks have passed and it’s time to share progress on my SAL project. I’ve now got a gate post stitched. What a lot of greys! The picture is really starting to take shape now. The design is from the James Herriott Collection.

Stage 3Do pop over to see how all the other ladies in the group are getting on with their projects. Just click their names below. We are all stitching different designs and we live all over the world so please allow for time differences when looking for their updates today. We also have another new member to welcome this time. Her name is Christina and her blog is called Petals and Pins. I can’t wait to see what she has chosen to work on.

Next To Go Stage 2

Good morning,

Doesn’t time fly? It’s time for the three weekly SAL update today.

I’ve been jumping around between several stitching projects recently but this one has taken priority. Firstly,  because I feel motivated by the SAL and secondly, because I’m really enjoying stitching this one. I have to say it’s a challenge due to frequent thread changes but I’m happy to push myself now and again. I have now completed one of the two dogs. The back stitch will enhance the picture but I haven’t done any of that yet. He’s definitely ready to go isn’t he? The design is from the James Herriott Collection.

Stage 2 Please visit the blogs of the rest of the ladies who are taking part in the SAL by clicking on the links below. We are all making something different. Regular readers will notice that there is a new addition to the group. We are welcoming Debbierose to the SAL from today. I can’t wait to see what she has chosen to make or finish. Take a good look around her blog.

Penguin Parade!

You all know by now that my friend Lin gave me her cross stitch stash a while ago. Well, these two little fellas were in that glorious bag of cross stitch goodies.

IMG_20160329_182349524They are made from kits by Permin of Copenhagen and the frames were included. Aren’t they cute? They didn’t take very long to stitch up, probably because I changed the pattern. I know what you are thinking. When will I ever just follow a pattern? Probably never, would be my answer. Their white tummies should be made from a loopy stitch but I didn’t like the effect when I tried it so I changed to cross stitch instead. The pictures have been gifted to my daughter. She loves penguins.

I hope you are finding time to craft this week 🙂

Next To Go Stage 1

Good morning everyone,

I’ve started my new SAL project and this time I’m stitching a design called Next To Go from the James Herriot Collection.

Kit As you can see, the picture is of a sheepdog handler and his two border collies who are waiting to take part in a sheepdog trial. They are “Next To Go”.

I’ve started in the centre on the trousers and it’s going very well so far.

Stage 1 This kit was given to me by my friend Lin who doesn’t think she will do any more cross stitch. You may recall that she also gave me her stash of cross stitch threads a while ago. I couldn’t wait to start this design because it’s a complete contrast to my last cross stitch project. The photo doesn’t do justice to the richness of the thread colours.

Do pop over to see what everyone else is up to today. You may need to allow for time differences as we live all over the world. Can you believe that Claire is doing a different project to me this time?

Our next update will be on 12th June. See you then!

Kokeshi Friends Finished

Hi everyone,

It’s time for an update on my Kokeshi Friends cross stitch by Joan Elliott. I’m very pleased to show you that it’s finished. Hurray!

Kokeshi Dolls FinishThis design has been a pleasure to stitch. The colours are so cheerful and it was easy to choose manageable chunks to stitch every three weeks for the SAL. My friend Lin very kindly gave me her thread stash and I only needed to find a couple of colours from my own supplies. I also had the even weave fabric in my drawer. So, not only has this been a joy to stitch, it has also been very economical too.

The opening edges of the kimonos were to be stitched in metallic thread but I tried and gave up on that idea very quickly. I replaced the metallic with another colour already used on the kimonos and I think it looks fine. I also changed the butterflies and stitched a back stitch line down the length of their bodies. I ummed and aahed about doing that, but they looked like flowers to me, so I had to change them. I also decided against the French knots which indicate the flight path of each butterfly in the original design. I don’t enjoy sewing them and I’m not keen on how they look either (at least when I sew them) so they had to go. Now, I just need some ideas on how to finish this piece. The size of the stitched area is 5” x 12”. Will it be a cushion or something completely different? Do you have any suggestions?

Me and Claire have been stitching the same designs for a while. Next time we are going to do something different.

Please visit the rest of the group today to see how they are getting on with their projects. You may need to allow for time differences as we live all over the world. I know there’s at least one more finished project on display this time.
