Woodland Sampler- Stage 19

It’s time for another SAL project update.  I’m stitching the Woodland Sampler by Anchor. The design number is PCE958.

This is where I was up to last time.

This is where I’m at now.

That’s 3/4 completed :-). I’m about to begin the final row underneath, starting with a rabbit emerging from its burrow.

Please check out what everyone else has been up to by clicking their names below. Connie is returning after a long break. Welcome back Connie! We live all over the world so you may need to allow for time differences as we’re posting today at local time.

About the SAL

Please note this SAL is not accepting any more new members until further notice but this is what it’s all about anyway. This SAL (Stitch Along) is slightly different to other SALs in that we don’t all stitch the same design at the same rate. We choose ONE unfinished project, or ONE new one, and show progress of its completion over a series of three weekly updates. There are no deadlines and no set amount to stitch. The result is that the space in our drawers full of WIPs (works in progress) is gradually being freed up to store lots of new crafty goodness. It’s surprising how much motivation I’ve gained from being in this SAL.

Woodland Sampler – Stage 18

I really had to push myself to achieve my target of one mini chart per update. I’d stitched some in week 1 and then nothing in week 2. Thankfully, I was able to put in many hours in week 3 and it was mainly full crosses. I’m hoping I’ll have 3/4 finished for the next update.

This is the bigger picture.

I’ll be working on a section to the right for the next update which shows the rest of the badger and more bluebells.

I’ve finished the butterfly in the top left and added lots of greenery and part of a stream. Also, the fawn now has hooves :-). I don’t look at the photo of the whole picture while I’m stitching and had to check when the piece of chart I was working on suggested stitching with scarlet thread at the bottom. I’d forgotten all about this splash of colour. It’s one of my favourite woodland finds that we don’t see here very often. Any ideas?

I’ll be working on a section to the right for next time. There’s more of the stream and the face of a very special and beautiful animal coming up.

I’ve been working under the fox this time. I finished the greenery where he is sitting, a clump of primroses, part of a butterfly and more greenery with someone hiding at the bottom. We’ve got quite a few primroses flowering in the garden at the moment so I enjoyed stitching those.

I’ll be working to the right of the primroses next. It’ll be almost full coverage with a stream and more greenery plus the rest of the butterfly. I’m going to try to keep up the same pace for every update. You’ve all been very patient with me for taking forever to get this project done. Thanks for all the encouragement.

I moved to the right and worked on the fern or whatever it is. There’s also some bluebells which are much more blue than I think they should be but I used the thread specified on the chart. I would’ve opted for more of a lilac blue but it is what it is.

There were loads of fractional stitches in this section but I just put my head down and was surprised how much easier it was with the right attitude.

The good news is that this sampler is now half finished. Does that mean I’m on the home straight?

As you probably predicted I’m now going to work on the section under the fox. It’s more flora and very apt for this time of year in the northern hemisphere. I’ll let you guess what’s coming next.

That’s both deer finished except for the fawn’s hooves which are on the next page down. It was an easy section to do because of the lack of three quarter stitches and there was very little back stitching as well. I quite enjoyed stitching that bit. The next bit isn’t full coverage but there’s loads of fractional stitches and not too many colour changes. It’ll be fine.

Anne has decided to bow out of the SAL for the foreseeable future to concentrate on other exciting projects. Please check out what everyone else has been up to by clicking their names below. Woodland Sampler – Stage 13

Happy New Year everyone!

It’s time for another SAL project update.  I’m stitching the Woodland Sampler by Anchor. The design number is PCE958.

This is where I was up to last time.

This is where I’m up to now.

The doe is completed except for the legs.  There wasn’t much back stitching to do so that’s finished as well. Thank you to everyone who recommended keeping up with the backstitching. I’m going to be glad I followed advice by the time I get to the end. Here’s a photo of the whole thing so far.

I think it’s all greenery in the section below the doe and there’s more of that to the right so it’ll be quite boring to watch this one grow for a while.

Our next updates will be posted on the 30th January 2022.

I completed the back stitching on the fox section from last time before moving to the right. Although the latest bit with the trees was almost full coverage it was much easier to do than previous sections because it’s mostly full crosses. The only back stitching is around the fawn and the back end of the doe so that was easy and quick to do. I still think there’s way too many hours in this project for the end result but I do like the picture very much and I’m definitely sticking with it until it’s finished for that reason. Have you ever given up on a project because the result doesn’t seem worth the time needed to complete it?

I’ll try to complete the rest of the fawn for next time (its hooves might be just off the sheet I’m working on) and if that goes well I’ll move further to the right.

Stage 9b

This is where I’m up to now.

I’ve filled the gaps in the greenery and the rest of the fox cub. There’s some backstitching to do which I think will make the fox look even more cute. I intend to do the backstitched detail on the fox and leaves next and then there’s a couple of easy patches of sky to complete. Then it’ll be back to greenery again.

Getting Ready – Stage 8

It’s time to show an update on my SAL project again. The picture is called Getting Ready from a kit by Design Works. This is where I was up to last time.

Stage 7

I’ve now got the top left section squared off and the backstitch has really made the flowers in the vase pop.

Stage 8

Next time I’ll be working to the right. There’s two faces in that square but I’m not sure I’ll get that far. I’ll try!

Hayley and Tony are new additions to the group this time. A warm welcome to both!
