Roll Your Own – Stage 4

It’s time for another SAL update. I’m stitching one of the Roll Your Own designs from Ink Circles. This one is from Mandala Set 1.

This is where I got up to last time.

This is where I’m up to now.

I would’ve liked to have finished the colouring for this update but it wasn’t to be. I’m still pleased with how much I got done though. I’ve decided I’m definitely going to add a border as it only measures 7″ x 7″. I’ve got plenty of scrap threads left and I chose a large piece of fabric so it seems like a good idea to make it bigger. I intend to finish the rest of the colouring for next time when I’ll be doing a mini Happy Dance. I think I can manage that much in 3 weeks.

Please check out what everyone else has been up to by clicking their names below. Constanze is taking a break from the SAL for a while. We live all over the world so you may need to allow for time differences as we’re posting today at local time.

About the SAL

Please note this SAL is not accepting any more new members until further notice but this is what it’s all about anyway. This SAL (Stitch Along) is slightly different to other SALs in that we don’t all stitch the same design at the same rate. We choose ONE unfinished project, or ONE new one, and show progress of its completion over a series of three weekly updates. There are no deadlines and no set amount to stitch. The result is that the space in our drawers full of WIPs (works in progress) is gradually being freed up to store lots of new crafty goodness. It’s surprising how much motivation I’ve gained from being in this SAL.

    • I’ve made several over the years and have always been delighted with the finished pieces. They’re easy too so if you ever fancy doing some mindless, pretty stitching…..

    • I’m lifting the centre part of the design for the border and adding a small amount of extra detail to join the sections together. I think it’ll turn out fine.

Great progress! It looks like you divided the coloring into three manageable chunks and looking forward to that mini happy dance next round!

    • I did divide it up but I didn’t quite get as far as I wanted to for this update. I’m determined to finish the corners for next time to stick to my self imposed schedule.

    • There are several suggestions in the chart pack and they all look different depending where the darks and lights are placed. I stuck as closely as I could to one of the colourways listed but the designer gives simple advice on how to choose your own colours as well.

    • I really do want to get the square filled in for next time. The evenings are cold and dark but I have good light now so that means I can stitch for a bit longer most days.
