It’s time for another SAL project update. I’m stitching the Woodland Sampler by Anchor. The design number is PCE958.
This is where I was up to last time.
I’ve now completed the greenery and some sky under the butterfly.
Also, continuing to the right, I added a bit more patchy sky, the head of a great spotted woodpecker and some leaves at the top.
There’s nothing more to the right of the leaves. I’ll continue with the woodpecker so the top section is all stitched and then add all the back stitching to what I’ve done so far. That’s my goal anyway.
Please check out what everyone else has been up to by clicking their names below. We live all over the world so you may need to allow for time differences. Posting takes place every third Sunday, local time. Our next updates will be posted on the 5th September 2021.

About the SAL
Please note this SAL is not accepting any more new members until further notice but this is what it’s all about anyway. This SAL (Stitch Along) is slightly different to other SALs in that we don’t all stitch the same design at the same rate. We choose ONE unfinished project, or ONE new one, and show progress of its completion over a series of three weekly updates. There are no deadlines and no set amount to stitch. The result is that the space in our drawers full of WIPs (works in progress) is gradually being freed up to store lots of new crafty goodness. It’s surprising how much motivation I’ve gained from being in this SAL.

/ August 15, 2021This is looking lovely and I hope that I do it the same justice when I eventually get to stitch this piece.
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ August 16, 2021I hope you enjoy stitching it more than I do!

/ August 15, 2021I do love a woodpecker! And now we can see what squirrel is looking at, because it really does look like he’s saying hello to Woody!
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ August 16, 2021You’re right. I hadn’t realised. I suppose I hadn’t looked properly at the whole picture before.

/ August 15, 2021I love how each individual takes shape within its own space. i have this one in my stash and you have inspired me to dig it out and give it some lovin!
Great progress update
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ August 16, 2021Well, if I inspired you to dig it out I’m surprised. It feels like all I’ve done is moan about it in previous updates. I hope you enjoy stitching it more than I do. There’s way too many fractional stitches for me liking.

/ August 15, 2021I am looking forward to seeing the rest of the woodpecker. I bet all these creatures really come to life with the back-stitching. You’ve been busy.
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ August 16, 2021I think they will though I’m sure a lot of it will be totally unnecessary. There I go moaning about this design again LOL.

/ August 15, 2021Such great progress. I love this, it’s so adorable. We’ve had an owl over the last few weeks waking us up in the middle of night having quite a conversation with himself. He’s probably telling the squirrels get out of my tree. I like your animals all in harmony 🙂
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ August 16, 2021I love owls. I’m regularly watching a live stream on Youtube and it’s like an owl soap opera. The cameras are on 24/7 from nests and feeding areas in Yorkshire. If you’re interested, the good thing for you would be that when the owls are active here (at night) you’ll be able to see all the nocturnal action during your daytime. We’re currently waiting on 7 barn owl eggs to hatch. Here’s a link to the stream if you haven’t had enough of your own owl.

Christina
/ August 15, 2021Oh I love the woodpecker! One of my favorite birds. We get the red bellied woodpecker at my feeder from time to time. I love the shape of the tree leaves too. Great progress, Avis!
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ August 16, 2021I just Googled. Wow! They’re beautiful birds. This one will have some red under its tail when I get to that bit.

/ August 16, 2021Love the woodpecker (hackspett in Swedish). In the winter we have mr and mrs Woodpecker visiting us every day!
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ August 16, 2021Oh that’s lovely! I love all the wild animals, especially the woodland ones. Do you hear them knocking holes in the trees in spring?
rutigt

/ August 16, 2021Now you have the owl finished apart from backstitch it is really looking great. The woodpecker will be a nice addition to this design.
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ August 16, 2021I think so too 🙂 I can’t work out whether it’s sitting on a branch or a rock from the picture.

/ August 18, 2021It’s looking lovely Avis, the woodpecker looks just like the one which occasionally visits our garden
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ August 21, 2021You’re so lucky to see them for real 🙂
Carole
/ August 27, 2021The squirrel is definitely having a chat with the woodpecker. He’s probably asking him to stop tapping on his tree while he’s trying to have a nap 😉
Sewing Beside the Sea
/ August 27, 2021Or maybe he could smash a few nuts for the squirrel if he asks nicely 🙂
